Henna Body Art

Temporary Tattoos in the Traditional Art of Mehndi

Mehndi is Hindi for Henna and describes the ancient cosmetic and healing art where the dried leaves of the Henna plant are crushed into a powder, made into a paste and applied to the body to safely dye the skin. The resultant temporary tattoo is reddish-brown and will last from a few days to several weeks, depending on where it is applied to the body and skin type. The process is in no way painful or harmful to the skin. In fact, Henna has been used medicinally for ages for its cooling, soothing and antibacterial properties.

The art of Mehndi has a rich history with its traditional and ritualistic use embraced by cultures in India, Africa and the Middle East. For example, a Hindu bridal Henna party may go on for as long as a week! Whatever the use, it should always be considered a meditation and spiritual practice at some level.

We take pride in this art form, and do every design freehand. We do not use stencils, stickers or ink transfers.

Designs start at ten dollars ($10) and will vary depending upon intricacy and time spent.
